Death of a Salesman Opens on Broadway With Nathan Lane and Laurie Metcalf

The spring Broadway calendar has its marquee revival. Death of a Salesman — Arthur Miller's 1949 tragedy and arguably the defining American play of the postwar era — opens on Broadway April 9 with Nathan Lane as Willy Loman and Laurie Metcalf as Linda. The two-actor pairing alone is the ticket; Lane has been circling Willy for years, and Metcalf's Tony-winning track record with Miller-adjacent material (A Doll's House, Part 2) suggests a Linda who will reshape how audiences think about the role.

The production joins a uniquely stacked April slate that also includes Titanique (opening April 12 at the St. James), Rocky Horror Show (April 23 at Studio 54), Joe Turner's Come and Gone with Taraji P. Henson (April 25), and The Fear of 13 starring Adrien Brody and Tessa Thompson (April 15). It may be the strongest Broadway opening month in recent memory.

If you're going: Broadway Week discounts still apply for some of the previews. TKTS same-day tickets run 40–50 percent off at the Times Square booth. Death of a Salesman is expected to move fast; the opening-night performance sold out within hours of on-sale.
